Connie is an administrative assistant in the department of agricultural economics at Texas A&M University. After failing to make her second U.S. Olympic Team in 2000, a disappointed Connie took time off from the sport to re-group. “I just decided I was going to do it and everything had to work around my shooting, but I couldn’t sacrifice my family and my job,” she said. Connie credits an understanding husband and boss with her new found enthusiasm. She hopes to improve on her Barcelona results, in which she was one of six women competing against 60 men. “I’m usually at the range in the early morning in order to be in the office on time,” she said. “I work out at lunch, get a quick shower in and then it’s back to the office. Then in the evening, I get another practice round in.”
On training for the Olympics while working full time:“People think, ‘why are you doing this?’ They think I am crazy.”
