Licensing is a contractual agreement whereby an organization grants another entity the commercial right to use its trademarked or registered logos and terminology, in return for a fee. USOC licensees have obtained the commercial right to use the USA 5-Ring logo on product and services. Unlike almost every other worldwide National Olympic Committee (NOC), the USOC does not receive continuing, direct government funding. Thus, the integrity of the USOC’s fund raising is tied directly to the support and cooperation it receives from the American public and from corporate America. Royalties from the sales of official USOC Licensed Merchandise are an important revenue-generating source for the USOC.
